Rx COMPOUNDING SUMMIT

The maiden pharmacy compounding summit is an in-person event scheduled for Thursday October 9, 2025, at The Providence Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

For the first time, in Nigeria this will be a forum that brings together heads of pharmacies from the hospital sector, senior officers from federal and state health institutions, pharmacy business stakeholders, regulatory executives and scholars under one roof to share insights to chart ways for developing a sustainable pharmaceutical compounding eco-system in Nigeria.

The pharmacist’s authority to compound medications from pure ingredients comes from federal laws and every pharmacist’s license carries the authority to mix, compound and prepare medicines, yet compounding has remained practically non-existent within the retail pharmacy sector and minimally carried out in few hospital pharmacies.

 After the 2019 covid pandemic, the Nigerian Government through the Federal Ministry of Health appeared to have promoted the idea of establishing compounding units within all federal government tertiary health institutions, yet the adoption and revitalization remain elusive.

Therefore, this event aims to begin a conversation on addressing the challenges and factors that have held back the development of pharmacy compounding.

It stands as an unparallel nexus for compounding vanguards and enthusiasts to spark pivotal transformation across the local landscape and begin to shape the tomorrows of the compounding domains in Africa.
